Electric Point of Use Tankless – Electrical Requirements

The most important piece of information you need to know before purchasing your tankless water heater is the amount and type of electricity you have available.  The chart below shows the electric requirements for each of our most popular units.  Please remember that the more gallons per minute of hot water you require, the more electrical capacity you will need.

Model GPM @ 45 degree temp rise Breaker Size Voltage
AE12 1.75 GPM 1 x 50 amps 208/240V
DHC 10-1 & DHC-E10 1.5 GPM 1 x 50 amps 208/240V
AE9.5 1.25 GPM 1 x 40 amps 208/240V
DHC 8-2 & DHC-E8 1.1 GPM 2 x 40 amps 208/240V
AE7.2 1.00 GPM 1 x 30 amps 208/240V
DHC 3-2 thru 6-2 0.50 -0.90 GPM 1 x 20-30 amps 208/240V
Mini 4 & 6 0.55 - 0.85 GPM 1 x 20-30 amps 208/240V
AE3.4 0.50 GPM 1 x 30 amps 110/120 V
Mini 3 & DHC 3-1 .45 GPM 3 x 60 amps 110/120 V

Listing from left to right is shown the following:

  1. Tankless water heater model #
  2. Water flow - Gallons per minute (GPM) raising the incoming water temp. by 45 º.  For example your cold water comes in at 60º you will have 105º hot water at the outlet.
  3. Breaker size – this is the amount of amps required when wiring the unit to avoid overloading the circuit.
  4. Voltage – The voltage requirements of the tankless water heater.  We do not recommend using a 110/120V water heater up north as you typically only get lukewarm water at best when using one of those models.
